This is my setting of the Denise Levertov poem (used by permission, New Directions Publications) for chorus. This is a live performance of Impromptu in St. Philips Cathedral, Atlanta, with soloist Arietha Lockhart.

Read the poem as you listen - it's extraordinary!

Heavenly music - the clusters remind me of contemporary Scandinavian choirmusic, influences of Sandstroem, Jennefelt, Edlund. Brilliant composition and an impressive performance Mary. Thanks for introducing it to us. I've been surprised by the piano - I expected an organ maybe - But how wonderful all the sounds go together in the acoustics of this church. An extraordinary poem indeed - and an extraordinary piece of music. Kudos to you!

The 'ecstatic' indeed. I'm reminded of some mid-century British work--Howells, Vaughan Williams..but either way, this is lovely. I liked the piano part--never having been an admirer of the organ('the monster never breathes', and it seems to me like a pseudo-instrument, not having a colour of its own). What I like most is how you tell the story--simply through music. Kudos indeed. It's nice to have a composer of your caliber at iCompositions.
