Remember those long sweet summers when the sidewalk was your highway? Everyone in the neighborhood was outside talking and playing until late in the evening. The night sky full of stars and buzzing insects. Sometimes people get older and all they have is the memory of those simple times. This song is dedicated to the homeless, and to all those whom (for whatever reason) are not able to live the American Dream.

The Longlines are:

Jayman....keys and composition
Powermatt...guitar
Baboon....lyrics and vocals

This is a great song, guys, worthy of all the praise to come. I commend all of you on all of it (to save space, since it's all done so well.)

That "mansion in the sky" line immediately brought me to the same place as "Big Rock Candy Mountain." The shift in tempo and back adds a classic 70's epic quality.

Wow what a cool return guys, may have been a while I've heard anything from you guys but the break see's you all on top form smiley

Great sentiment/lyrics/vox, digging Matt's guitar, a very solid track, now this is not a negative but it sure would not sound out of place covered by Robbie Williams (did I just say that?) anyhows way better than anything he's churned out in like years.

Always a good day when I have a new LongLines song to listen!
Really admire what you have done. Besides the tech specs (which I'd LOVE to know) lyrics are great, voice is great, choruses are great, that whicked organ is great, guitar playing and panning not only great, but also wise!!!
... loving the whole concept!

With songs like this one is when I hate my bad english for not being able to tell you LongLines how much I liked this.

Keep it going!

macoco.

Thx morgan--true, iComp catalog is a deep, deep vault, I'm still discovering things after 4 years of digging around. And, new people drop in *every* day. You can lose many hours (albeit well-spent ones) listening here. Today, I spent about 6 hours, listening. I feel great because it reminds me how many creative and expressive people are in the world (regardless of how well they're known or if they make a dime from music or not). What are we going to leave behind when we go--only the things we've made, recorded, written, etc. The money stays behind, too, lol. Sing and play your instruments and put it out there! smiley

You had me with the pic of the Big Wheel. I burned through the plasticene tires of a few of those dogs. Could even pull off a 360 with enough speed and the hand brake on the rear tire.

This song brings it back to about '74 for me. Great to hear all of you together again. Ding dong ditch, ghost in the graveyard and bomb pop popsicles.

I feel the loss of innocence in this writing and performance with the same angst that Quadrophenia brings.

Such a great song! REALLY LOVED IT!
But it does need more bass in the mix... smiley
Lots of highs in the mix, would have loved a mix that wasn't so hot.
However, it really is a minor quibble for a song that's so rich like this.

Baboon as usual, your vocals are sublime.
Matt- I can NEVER get enough of your power popping ripping guitar work!
Jayman- I have missed your work tremendously. This is a great way to come back. Swinging and making a KO!

Love it guys!

Long may you rock!

Yep, it's more a statement about idyllic childhood landscapes, upward mobility, and losing track of simple pleasures. It's not uniquely American to strive for a nice house in the suburbs and tons of electronic "toys", only to find out they don't make you as happy as when you were a kid living a very modest, unplugged existence. (And via pursuit of wealth ignoring humanity struggling all around us.) This song was inspired by countless summer nights when the whole block full of kids, teens and adults would be out on the lawns socializing. Then I imagined a homeless person looking into a modern, expensive home where people rarely go outside or talk to their neighbors and have every convenience under the sun, while he is told to "move it down the line" (leave town because he's a vagrant)...anyway, a mix-mosh of themes and nostalgia. And we all know most people are only a few paychecks away from being homeless these days...while there are those with more wealth than they know what to do with, yep.
