Animalogy (n.): The not-very-serious study of the many varieties of animals found in their natural habitats in and around the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska as viewed through the eyes and ears of this human animal/composer during her myriad adventures throughout the area. A musical portrait of the various creatures living and procreating in the Kenai Peninsula including, but not limited to, the many varieties of birds, bald eagles, bears, moose(s), sheep, wolves, and sea life that inhabit this spectacular piece of real estate. It is up to you, the listener and performer, to catch glimpses of the various animals as they go about their daily tasks and pleasures.

Animalogy was commissioned in 2006 for the Continental Harmony Project, Alaska, generously funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and The American Composers Forum. It is the middle movement of An Alaskan Symphony that is scored for full orchestra, woodwind quintet and choir and orchestra. Animalogy was premiered at The Pratt Museum in Homer, AK June 16th, 2006. The complete Alaskan Symphony was premiered in Homer and Kenai, Alaska in April of 2007 by the Kenai Peninsula Orchestra and choirs under the direction of Mark Robinson. Animalogy is a winner of the 2007 Aeros Quintet Competition and will be performed in Carnegie Hall's Zankel Hall on May 5, 2008.

It's nice to hear a live recording, and one that is performed so well. Excellent writing for the quintet. I love that quirky, quacky Oboe solo. A nice sense of humour in this piece. No constructive criticism here, only congratulations. Bravo. Welcome to iCompositions! (I have a series of Zoomorphisms posted on this site--a similiar concept to Animalogy). How did you work with Igor Stravinsky? He's been gone since 1971?

adriennealbert Artist Hi Soulima!

Thanks for your input about Animalogy. I will check out your Zoomorphisms (I love the title!).
I was the original singer on his last song, The Owl and the Pussycat, and also recorded with him his Four Russian Songs. It was so long ago, and I was so overwhelmed by being in the same space as the great Maestro. If you live in the NY area, I have a premiere of my own Version of The Owl.. on March 10th at Renee Weiler Recital Hall in Greenwich Village of the Women's Work concert, Faces of Eve. If you are interested, I'll send you the info.
All best,

adriennealbert Artist I Won't, Silks!!

and thanks for your comments. I was a baby when I worked with Stravinsky smiley and I started composing relatively late in my career in the mid 90s. Finally found my passion!

BTW, a technical question: how does one post the information that comes up below one's comment i.e. latest song: and the links for artist page, etc. I am new to this site and any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Listenin' again. I do love this piece of writing. It's perfect for the woodwind quintet. Even though you were a Stravinskyphile, I am hearing Ibert, Milhaud and Prokofiev. We're looking forward to your next upload!
