This one's from the "just for fun" department: I recently took out of mothballs my vintage-cheapo, totally unplayable 1964 Teisco Del Rey guitar. I tore it apart, reset the neck, filed the frets, and so on... Here's a link to a Mac gallery of pix on the qickie rehab job. Once it was back together and the glue was dry, I had to do a tune inspired by the era of its origin. This is it.

GEAR: Teisco Del Rey ET-300; Peavey Milestone II bass; Early '70s Fender Pro Reverb amp; some kinda Russian condenser mic; PreSonus Inspire 1394 firewire 400 interface. Drums are loops and a touch of GB "midi pencil."

P.S.: Buggy song loading since my Snow Leopard install reduced my presence here. PM cites an Apple QT bug and suggests not adding song art in the Mp3. That seems to do the trick. If you want a DL with the graphic, you can clip the one above. HAPPY MOTORING! --B.

Rockabilly with Surf elements

You should do it just for fun more often, maybe, because this track seems wholly conceived and simply wild!

I often wonder, "At what point should I jump in to comment and say thanks for your comments?" I almost argued with Steve, the first comment... I'm no maestro! But it was yank's mention of "manic" that jumped-out at me. Yeah, it's that, for sure. THANKS ALL.

MARk 80s, Pharm, I had to flip a coin to decide between surf and hotrod... really the same thing, but I know more about speeding tickets than longboards! (I miss the Dave "tSUNAMIS" Stadther! And Woodman!) I really ought to do a few more just for "fun," it does seem to bring out my -- as Becky says -- enthusiasm.

Ravens, I wrote a long reply to your comment... and lost it... must have shut the tab too soon. We covered this MJ/iC ground backstage, though. Thanks.

Mark80s, I originally planned to tilt this more toward punk -- speccifically '60s proto-punk garage rock (13th Floor Elevators, etc.). But by the time I had a few more tracks down, it sort of got a little more melodic & conventional. Likewise, some of the punk element got softened when instead of just shouting the 1-2-3-5 part, I kept veering toward singing in key. (well, sort of!) The underlying rhythm track with all that tube-amp spring reverb on it was the base track here, and it's the most overdriven. (There are no FX in the most of the guitars here beyond EQ and compression; I just plugged into my Pro Reverb and cranked it to 10... after that I did another track with the amp lower, for less tube O.D., and then went direct-in on just one minor guitar, panned right, where I added a touch of amp sim/distortion.)

4arms, it seems you've complimented me in a way I can feel proud, my "lack fo maestro" is meant to entertain. I'm not a technical player; others will always be able to impress on that count.

THANKS ALL.

Oh man. The vintage sound is to die for. And I'm really diggin' this tune too. I can see that it's something you might have put together quickly, but that doesn't man it can't be good, on the contrary, it's so much fun, one can't imagine this much playfulness on something more laborious to produce. Could use a little boost on the vocals, but otherwise I love the production and everything about it.

@Tribrix, @khu, @Neumizik, @pete, @C_Man, @markbuck, @Oddity007 ...

I have taken so long to respond with thanks that I felt I needed to "@" you, even if I don't have a long, involved way to express it. If you really like this kind of thing, the flip-side to it -- another driving instrumental -- is my "What Exit?" tune (http://www.icompositions.com/music/song.php?sid=38641). I actually conceived the "words" for this song at the same time that I did that one! PLEASE understand that I don't mean this to be fishing for comments... just hoping to make another "sale," those (imaginary) profits just keep rolling in!
