S(feat zallaz) .
o after recently discovering the photographs taken while recording 'All About You' thirty years ago (1982) at Beck, Wellingborough, UK I found myself listening to the track.

Kev Gilliland wrote the lyrics, sings and plays guitar.
Phil Rowe plays drums.
Kevin Misan (aka zallaz) plays bass guitar.
The music was a band effort, we all had input.

Also seen in the pictures are Sharon Jones (my then fiancee, later wife), the late Tony Jones her Dad and the late George Misan my father. So it is a real time capsule and thanks to both of those guys for driving over with our equipment from Northampton to Beck. Only Kev Gilliland had a driving licence back then.

We also recorded 'I Can't Stand It' that day.

It all went fairly smoothly and was a nice sunny day, although Derek the engineer at Beck said my backing vocals where rubbish and so Kev Gilliland overdubbed them.

Kev was playing an Aria guitar and Phil had Premier drums. I was using a Carlsbro Cobra combo and a 'Decca' bass (that did not really exist, long story) it was really a Commodore bass guitar, purchased from Dave Turley bass player in Northampton band GBH.

Kev Gilliland was in Grip before Catch 22 and went onto a London band 'The Broad Church' who rerecorded 'I Can't Stand It'.

Phil Rowe now works for Northants County Cricket Club, but prior to Catch 22 was in 'Neat, Neat, Neat' with Bob Spence former lead singer of The Zeros and The Tones.

Yeah! That's the stuff that made me stop listening to Metal and crap pop music. Very English and very London sound to my ears.

@that80'sboy cheers Mark. The bassline was a reaction, I'd been 'brow beaten' in a previous band by another musician (who knew squat in the end) 'you cannot do single note basslines'.

Well I just thought 'to heck with that'. Just listen to Sting in The Police back then, especially the Grammy winning bassline on 'Walking On the Moon', proof single note, or minimal bass can sound great, and it's all about each instrument 'gel-ing'.

I love this! If I didn't know any better, I'd say it was something by Blur, or Pulp or one of those indie bands of that era. A great song, so easy in its delivery, very catchy and expert in its construction.
