What a fine song. It is delivered so delicately and fine. Simple music. Guitar and claps and a drum sound.

And a vocal delivered so tender, sweet, and full of expression of feelings. I really feel how much this person was hurt. I recall many years ago my own experience in the similar situation, like most of us have been in sometime in our life.

Fantastic

Beautiful mix, nice additions of the handclaps and guitar part/solo.

I still like the 'explicit ' lyrics better but I would buy the grown-up CD then. smiley

About a million years ago jana when I heard you post a lil' ditty called 'Chicken Noodle Soup' your lyrics/vocal delivery did stop me in my tracks, and now many years on that unique 'from the heart' style still sounds pretty darn unique in my opinion.

What was fun this morning thinking up a picture with both of us in as we walked the streets of Toronto that would illustrate the song title... (there's a couple of 'outtakes' below).

My favorite genre!!!! Love your vocals on this. The lyrics are great and the delivery is real, yet dreamlike...I know makes no sense. That guitar is sweet twice over. Gotta love hand claps...my favorite instrument. This is a keeper.

A fantastic tune. Got an interesting sound going on here and the vocals are great. Nice instrumentation going on, all around great stuff here. It seems so relaxing and sounds happy until you listen into those lyrics, what a jerk, hahaha. Much enjoyed!

Your lyrics are honest, sincere and meaningful. Your vocals are clear, exact yet tender. Your instrumentals are upbeat and controlled even though the lyrics say something else! I absolutely love it! Great job MissRed and zallaz!!! You two know how to make music together that is for sure!!!!!

@KennethLavrsen yes MissRedds vocals are superb for sure. smiley
@Naaji thanks! smiley
@Gadzooks 'Quirky' eh, cool! smiley
@pinkyrv the two versions (the earlier 'explicit'/live acoustic') and this one both have a nicely contrasting texture. On this version we where aiming for the track to 'evolve'. There are some subtle enhancements goin' on in MIssRedds' production here, the haunting ambient vocals on the chorus, and the outros final 'flamenco' style ending, where on earth did you find that MissRedd? smiley

Yes those lyrics are 'scathing' in places but as MIssRedd says 'musical catharsis'. Here's a random anecdote, the photo you refer to was taken in Allan Gardens Toronto, but while we where trying to figure an appropiate illustration of 'space inbetween' visually the TV station 'Space' had a film crew in there too, so it was like a strange 'Space' meets 'space' coinciedence.

@LunaBleu to be honest, the lyrics are a little difficult for me. they're comprised of all the emotions that remain once the initial anger has dissipated. it's an unsafe place to be for me, because it feels vulnerable. there's no wall of anger. just the truth. post-eden.

@TopFun thanks dad. i know i can always count on you for support. you're kinda my rock.

@August as soon as i heard zallaz' instrumentation and music, i instantly connected with it. the handclaps & dead guitar. the crazy jangly middle 8. brilliant. and i suppose through all the space in between, there's still a sort of musical intimacy.

@CanadianMaple you're the best mom. always in my corner. even when i'm not sure if i'm in love or hate. you always agree. you let me make my own decisions, and you let me be free. that's a rare kind of unconditional love. thanks for being the ear i could vent to.

@Sheth psycho-folk-angst. i feel like it should be a thing. like a quiet angry sit-in. with little-to-no threat of violence. i appreciate your listen.

@jayman the recording process was very fluid. the mixing process was less so. but after almost throwing my computer out the window, it all seemed to come together. thanks for stopping by.

@morgan102 i agree that perhaps it could use some harmonic texture in the vocals. i think i was trying to keep it simple. maybe it needs a tweak or two. thanks for the feedback. much appreciated.

@RubyDubidoux it's amazing that you hear joy in the delivery of this song. i think it's a testament to your upbeat nature. i wish i had more of that kind of outlook on things. however, perhaps after all is said and done, there is an element of joy and freedom in the delivery. it most definitely allowed for the release of much anger and sadness. thus creating room for happiness, balance & harmony. glad you enjoyed, my dear.

What a great track, I love the box perc and claps, they give this a "real" feel, street corner vibe. The guitar is really well played and recorded with a notable solo, I especially liked the fade...
The vocal has a hint of Macie Grey to my ears, you have an intriguing voice that has many qualities that shine on this...

Nice song, an inspired collab in my book...

@ffej55 i agree that zallaz' guitar on this is quite remarkable. the solo is my favourite part. it was interesting working on this with him in person, considering the song draws heavily from personal experience. i'm really thankful that you enjoyed it.

@ffej55 The backstory to that guitar part was watching the recent documentary 'Sound City' and seeing Rick Neilsen recording a guitar solo, now although I play nothing like him it had more to do with 'approach', it just sent me in another direction sonically.

@SISTERS thanks anne for stopping by for a listen. zallaz' guitar solo is like a spastic sort of brilliance that catches my ear every time. it's my favourite part. i enjoy your work on a regular basis. for you to comment on my vocals is quite flattering. thanks.

@Doug_CN after listening to your last post and the eerie harmonies & shoe-gazing backdrop, i'm enthralled with your style. i'm stoked that you took the time to listen. much appreciated.

@sammydix i never thought to add some strings. i appreciate the feedback very much. maybe some extra touches would add to this song. thanks so much for your input.

@SOULWAVE i'm so glad you enjoyed. thanks for your lovely comment. i'm always grateful.

@SISTERS glad you like the guitar solo! smiley

@Doug_CN Yep, it was a kind of 'no thrills' approach, it's tempting to keep adding tracks and before you know it it's layers of sound but the vibe is buried. smiley

@SOULWAVE Cheers for checking out this version too, I recollect you also did so on the earlier version too! smiley

@sammydix Nice to know you enjoyed MissRedd's production duties, nowadays personally I'm very much of the 'let me just play the music' and if someone else wants to mix a track I'm more than happy to oblige.

I'd rather concentrate on writing lyrics and trying not to repeat myself musically in the creative proccess, if possible. smiley

@grathy. true story. can't make this stuff up. thanks for checking us out.

@Vixen. it's true there's a sort-of upbeat quality to zallaz' guitar (& the handclaps, i suppose). i've always been a fan of happy music with sad lyrics. it's a kind of musical dichotomy. morrissey is probably the master of this musical domain. i'm glad you can see both sides of this story. thanks for stopping by.

@toveco. i'm really glad you enjoyed. thanks so much for listening.

@kira001. konnichiwa kira-chan. arigatou gozaimasu. i appreciate your comment.

@Chromatic. hi wayne. thanks so much for stopping by. i also love the handclapping on this. it was zallaz' genius idea. (shhh. don't tell him. he already has a massive ego).

@zallaz. i'm not sure if you're congratulating me on our #1 song, or my 3 year absence from icomps. let me iterate that punctuation, my friend, is essential to written communication. your lack of punctuation, therefore, makes the above comment difficult to comprehend. smiley

wow, that made me smile from the first note, and then the lyric which is so sad, and very deep, and well written. has one of those early 80s feelings from a new wave band, but i must say this is so well done...terrific work!

@mfwmiles thank-you, the lyrics are all MissRedd's I just provided a musical backdrop to the unfolding story in the song here. smiley

What I enjoy on this one is the rather bleak/sad words are juxtapositioned by what I personally feel is a happy music sound, so it pulls the listener it two directions. smiley
