The Magician. The great illusionist. The close-up trick. The escape act. Thrilling us. Amazing us. Expressed in music.

Starting with a brief soundscape to set the scene and quickly continues as a 95 bpm melodic mainly synth piece (An African marimba and electric guitar is also heard). And in D Dorian.

Enjoy the magic

A beautifully structured piece; the Dorian mode foundation gives this the perfect flavor for your subject matter. The nice, subtle "swoopy" touches in the background are well blended into the whole, and enhance the mystery feel of the piece. Awesome-awesome-awesome stuff, as always!!!

Gloriously suspenseful intro, and then the synth magic we've come to expect from you, Kenneth. A lovely melody played in the Dorian mode, making for some nice tonal changes in the melody. The melody has a slight eerie quality to it, especially when it slips from major to minor. I'm dying to know where the marimba fits in ... ooh, here it comes, on top of that heavy bass, and more eerie melodic riffs. Great use of drums to emphasise certain passages.

This one has a Middle Eastern flavour, Kenneth. Smooth flowing to accommodate the plethora of tricks of the wizard! This is light and entertaining without training the audience who is always looking on the how the magic is done! I really like the carefree attitude that you composed!

This is very good, Kenneth and very clean.

But it's too clean. You're pushing DAW too much. You need a little help in taming things down. I can't teach you this but i think this free link by Variety Of Sound can.

BTW, these plug-ins are IBM/ Windows specific. I know you are a Mac guy. But, in your bio, you also said that you are into Linux.

We all need to learn the secrets of compressor-limiting and how to allow that to smooth out listening volume in the end:

http://varietyofsound.wordpress.com/2013/06/12/compressor-aficionados-4-bob-olhsson/

After reading this article, look in the right pain section for free downloads and view the VST plug-ins. As for the rest of our iComps family reading this, if you guys are Mac specific, learn from this and then find counter-parts in UAD beyond Microsoft for Windows.

Here's a good way to start:

https://www.google.com/search?q=Best+free+DSP+Plug-ins+for+Mac+in+DAW%2F&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

@MH2010 Can you elaborate a little what you mean with "clean". Clean as I understand the word is what I want my music to be as the opposite of dirty and distorted. But I guess you mean something else with clean.

I have all the plugins in the world that I have paid for incl the NI Komplete 8 Ultimate which also includes some nice new compressors. And Logic has plenty also. So my problem is not having the plugs.

Is it the overall sound that is too compressed to your taste? I have used a 2 dB master compression. Most of the sounds are synths so with those sounds I try to program them to sounds like I want them.

I tried to have more punch on the bass synth and synthetic drums first. But that was not the kind of sound I wanted.

I do use headphones a lot when I mix and that is a matter of being considerate to my dear wife as we have a small house and my gear is in the livingroom. But in this case I do think it sounds very good on my speakers and I also did a test listen of the mix in my car. Maybe it is just a matter of taste.

But I find the subject interesting so if you can elaborate on what you think I should try I am very open to experiments and to learn.

Thanks for taking the time to give constructive feedback. I value that very high.

Absolutely love the intro, sets the stage for whats to come beautifully. Excellent flow, smooth & graceful just as a skilled magician's hands are. Has a Middle Eastern flavor for my ears, which I love. Exotic & sensual. Sounds fantastic through the surround speakers imop. Your music always has wonderful melodies that stick in the mind long after I am finished listening. I love it. Perfection. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for sharing with us. Masterful original composition, vision, performance & production.

I think this would make a great backing track for a magic show. I kept waiting for the applause and cheers from the audience. Some ooohs and ahhhs would be a cute thing to throw in the mix too.

I felt like it also needs some dynamic cymbal crashes to emphasize the magic happening.

Maybe even a lion roar LOL

Great image you picked. Sounds like this magician has traveled the world. When I first met him at the beginning he must have been in Paris, then he was off to the Orient. I hear a little American Indian in there to, but that's probably just the young lady he's got mesmerized. I'm sure does it all with smoke and mirrors. He probably he lives in Las Vegas.

Part of it has a wonderful oriental dromedary ride feeling.
Then also dreamy, fairytail,- well suitable for illusions.

I like the arrangement and production here. I was reading MH2010's comments and if "clean" is critique, that doesn't sound too bad. A pristine, clear (if I'm getting the meaning of clean correct) production is appropriate for this. And by "taming things", the compression if fine for the type of music (exotic synth instrumental pop?) , the levels are fine.
If you were producing Iggy Pop or Johnny Cash, too clean or too loud might be more of an issue.

Thank you all for the sweet words. I just read through the comments. So many. And are all these sweet words really for me? Thank you so much. It means so much.

@RTe Well heard. Yes the bass line is inspired by Europe Endless by Kraftwerk. It sort of came as I played the bass and wanted to add a little more rhythm

@thsantac I had a longer intro first but cut it down because I feared many that do not like soundscapes would give up

@albinoSQUIRREL Yes all MIDI smiley

@Xolv I have an idea for a future track. I promise you plenty of drum rolls in that smiley

Lovely lovely details going on throughout this, like sweet little treats for the ears; a cherry on top.
Interesting melodies/overal songwriting going on here, and the textures of the synths used help convey the mystic and enigmatic imagery of the whole piece to my mind. I also quite like how the notes switch up through the whole thing, along with the synth sound designs. This makes for a thoroughly satisfying listen. Also, the fusion of the guitar totally complements the rest of the mix! I love when artists blend things a bit. Wonderful work!
