After a January with maybe one day of visible sun my dreaming and longing towards the spring and summer once again inspired a sunshine melody.

It has taken me two weeks to complete this. I used 26 tracks incl many of pure percussion. Lots of percussion. I shall now bore you or entertain you with all the details smiley

I started off with the idea of a sunshine tune in minor key. So the main key is C minor but with some small twists to allow chromatic notes to colour the melody line.

The music starts with the Lambada beat/bass and leads into the main melody theme played by some layered whistles and synths and finger picked acoustic guitar.

The music then develops into a section with the same progression but a new melody line played by accordion and melodion layered with an e-bowed piano. It gives a sound like the rays from the sun, warm and bright. Chords get played by steeldrums.

Third section brings us back to the main melody now played by a plucked modelled plate/string instrument. And I introduce banjo to play the chords

The music now develops in a surprising way. We enter a long bridge part which is almost like a song in the song in 3 small sections - each modulating and playing with major/minor and key changes. It is also brings back the steel drums playing the chords. It starts with a melody played by horns. Then comes a new little melody with a warm brass-like synth playing a theme that moves between major and minor. The long intermezzo section ends with a new melody played by a cello-like synth and helped along by the horns.

The next section brings us back to the main melody theme. The chords are now played by an army of instruments incl. pianos. Banjo is back. Lead instrument is a bell sounding cool Zebra2 patch. Horns continue to support the lead.

Finally we round off the song quietly with the end of the main theme as the sun goes down over the ocean and we hold hands with the loved one on the beach.
Oh, and did I mention the drink in the other hand?

Enjoy

I may not have seen the sun this year either, but now I definitely heard it.
Many lovely instrumental timbres you have tweaked out of your synths. Blends well in the different sections. Now I also had a road map with points of particular interest mentioned in your tourist guide to the piece. I liked that. Your descriptions where very fitting. I only missed an umbrella to put in my smoothie.

has that lovely sunny island beat, but also the melancholic minor feel of longing...like someone stuck in winter, dreaming of sunshine. how about that for someone putting together the perfect blend of all things musical to create a well developed story. the horns help build the energy as we approach our destination! this just gets bigger and bigger, and is EPIC on scale, but worth the listen. i am going to turn up the heat in my house, pour myself a beer and sit under my brightest light with sunglasses on now...thanks!!!

Wonderfully tropical rhythms and gorgeous melodies. Especially digging the accordion. Imagining a conga line of smiling happy people forming as I listen. Transporting me far away to a sunny warm beach on this bitter cold February day. Excellent work. Thanks for sharing with us.

Nice Caribbean rhythm section and wonderful happy melodies with such a soothing sound like a cool breeze on a white sand beach with crystal clear blue water. It really makes me long for a beach vacation right now in the cold 17F degree ready to snow area I'm in... The bass is really nice as well supporting the song yet up in the mix and placed well. The whole song has a happy energy to it that is infectious. I love the use of the horns and the off sounding notes that add a bit of interest to the harmonious melodies that have come before. Almost a tinge of sadness in such a happy tune. Just a drop nothing more. The song builds nicely and the horn stabs are quite awesome and well placed. Enjoyed!

Peace,
Tony

Definitely a **sunshiny** song! Makes me feel all warm inside listening.

26 tracks, whoa, that's a lot, I can imagine how tricky that must have been to work with. The most tracks I have mixed were 13 (on one of the songs I did with my son).

Gorgeous piece of work, Kenneth. smiley

Wow, Ken...this is a buncha music! I too am very intrigued with the major/minor horns; that's cool. How did you play all this with a drink in your hand now? smiley

I would SO like some sun in Kansas...sigh...

I think this is some of your very best work here? Not just great playing but the songwriting is top notch as well. Well-done, man!

what a tasty mix of instruments here, Kenneth, and I really like that big fat bassline that drives the piece and grounds the sunnyness. Wonderful minor key melody - when the accordion comes in, it really reminds me of the tunes I grew up with in the Indian films I watched. Lovely melody line, so catchy, and poignant too. Amazing drums you've written here - i've no idea how you do it, but I like it.

Suuuuuunshiiiiiine oh yeah!
Here above the arctic circle in the north of Norway we have had a freezing january with
no sun, no rain, and NO SNOW!
Never seen that before! The sun came back yesterday, and soon now
we're heading for summer months with 24hour shining midnight sun...
Your composition is like a melting Pina Colada
followed by a Cuba Libre.. full of flavour and warmth...
Man what a job with all those tracks!
Thx for this taste of summer!!!

Sunshiny is right. Looks like everyone here is just waiting for it to come. Where I am we expect the Canadian fronts to come down during the winter but this year we've been getting the Arctic fronts and they just keep on coming.
The sunshine comments sound right because the whistle at the beginning reminds me of the old spaghetti westerns, most of which were filmed in Spain. (Italian directors.)
Another section reminds me of the old Dr. Who series music. And who would think of using a banjo and steel drums in the same song? Very inventive. Thanks. Enjoyed.

the variations in the percussion is truly neat.

Sweet! Now let's skip to July, because it's February. I like the nostalgic sound of akkordion, even if it is just a little piece of this composition. 26 tracks are not too few, haha, did you need an administration to supervise them all?

Late for the party again! This is such a cute feel, I'd forgotten about Lambada. You got it nailed Ken.
Lots of sonic niceness to keep the whole thing flowing. Nice choice of instruments and sounds...the perc sounds groovy too. I like the tonal choices and progressions, this is an epic piece.

All this with no loops? Wow, how'd you learn to play all of those instruments? Even if it's all triggered by a keyboard, I can't imagine hammering out the rolls and fills on the percussion via a keyboard. Great work Ken!
