JCLeonard posted a beautiful track a couple of weeks ago for open collab. A classical style piece with a lovely simple progression and nice harmonies and decorations by a piano and bells. When I heard it, a melody started forming in my head and I knew I had to record it.

So here it is. A slow elegant piece that describes the wonderful spring that we are in the middle of. My favourite time of the year.

Chord Progression and string/piano harmonies composed and played by JCLeonard.

Melody - played by acoustic and electric guitars, voices, glasses, plucked piano, and harp - is composed and played by Kenneth Lavrsen

I love what you've done with this ... it makes me long for spring ... unfortunately here in eastern Canada we are in a deep freeze with so much snow it broke records.... but it is just around the corner.
I like how you merged the rock with the classical ... the electric guitar is the perfect touch.. wonderful melody and a superb collab!

I went to listen to the original piece first. You accomplished in lightening the original by adding to rather than by subtracting from the arrangement. Well done.

TheSupras Artist Very nice piece of music, really enjoyed it! Might I suggest though that you use a slightly more realistic guitar as at times it sounds a little synth-like. Other than that it's brilliant! Keep it up!

@TheSupras. Good ears. Some of the guitars are the new Applied Acoustic Systems Strum GS2 that I just upgraded to (I had the version 1) and it had to be tried.

It is not based on samples but on mathematical modelling. The advanges are that there is no velocity layering so you get hair fine response to how you play and the software takes no space on the drive. But it is still far from realistic. I often try to use these instruments so it is clear it is not a real instrument but a synth. In this case I should perhaps have used either a sampled acoustic or chosen one of the more synth sounding settings.

The plucked piano is also a strange sound. It comes from Omnisphere. I like the sound but it is no real instrument but a mix of bowed glass and piano strings plucked and then processed.

It is all experiments and fun. I am glad you liked it anyway.

Just a bit heavy for my kind of Spring. Certainly a reflection of classical melodies,, however there must be a great difference in the sound choices we make on this side of the sea,,,, twinkle and music box,, i don't understand! Happy skippy notes,,, hummm

Such a perfect piece, you would never think this was not how the piece was always intended to sound. Kenneth, you've written a glorious melody to go with the deep sombre arrangement of the original. And I like the choice of instrument. Beautiful bell sounds that come in also make me smile. They have such an innocent quality against the robust cello. As the piece goes on, it increasingly sounds more and more like a round, where the end of one motif segues into the beginning of the next, and back again. Very clever.

Okay, I have to admit: my wish was to compose something classical - this one might be different from "what you seem to know" from the other side of the sea smiley

@JCLeonard thank you also from me. Thanks for trusting me free hands to build on your fine track. I liked the fusion you had with very old renaissance classical and modern pop that kicks in with th synth and percussion.

To me spring is the best time of year. Up here in Northern Europe close to the Atlantic winters are mild with short days. When spring comes it is with all the bells and whistles. It is the time where days get longer by 4-5 minues per day up here. It is drama and beauty.

The chord progression hinted a bit of Pachelbel's Canon and that inspired my melody lines at first. But then the eternal influence of Mike Oldfield set in and noone should have any doubt that his influence is there when I start the electric guitar part.

I really love the way the original track built up and then rested and built up again. It inspired me to build my melody and instrumentation much different than how I normally build my own songs. This collab was very rewarding to me personally. Thanks again. And thanks to all that received it so well with your kind comments.
