Hi everybody,

This one is from the 1930 show "The New Yorkers", written by Cole Porter.

The musical satirizes New York types, from high society matrons to con men, bootleggers, thieves and prostitutes during Prohibition.

Add on's:
"Bird Cage" slide whistle.
Easter egg shaker ball.
Pink plastic child's melodica, straight from China.

As always, thank you for your time.

CU!
Elaine

That is such a great, funny, 1930s hip, tune - gotta love Mr. Porter! This is another great, really live feeling, performance of these somewhat forgotten treasures. In other words, you rocked it out!! smiley I love the ukulele, but you really surprised me when you pulled out the harmonica!! Your vocal performance put right in the middle of the era, like I was inside the "Paper Moon" Fun!

@becwil & @maestrodog

It's really cornie, isn't it?!! That's actually the melodica I used on a few older songs. It's been staring at me for years. It DOES sound like a harp doesn't it? I grabbed a little shaker egg that has been getting dusty too just to add a bit of something extra.

I'm thinking of getting a set of harps...really tempted smiley

Thanks to you all for your time!

Ooooh. Yeah, sounds just like a harp. Yes, DO get some harps! You have such a great sense of melody and wonderful pitch-perfect ear … it'll be fantastic!

Now that you mention the shaker and I listen again, I hear it. Nice! I think it could be a bit louder in the mix.

Most enjoyable entertainment and enlightenment into american musc history.
Wonder if the eating disorder organization would comment or demand a ban if the text appeared in top of the charts today.

Regarding the instrumentation, Is it you wistling or is a the kind of sliding whistle fute Spike Jones usede?

@Xolv That's a great question regarding the eating disorder organization! The odd lyrical 'charm' of this song is what drew me to it smiley

You're right! That's a slide whistle! I tried to do a chord slide on the uke but it didn't sound quick enough.

As always Xolv, I appreciate your support!

CU!
Elaine PS I'll put reference to these little instruments in the info.

You seem to feed from the ukulele and visa versa - i was wondering - do you do both all together ? - it sounds like it is so soulful that you are in union square on a nice day - it always seems like a nice day when i hear yours

@ScottHorwath Hi Scott! Thank you for the sweetness!

I play and sing at the same time. There was a brief time many months ago when I found it difficult with the tenor uke, but playing the baritone uke has changed all that. It's been good to me smiley

When the song started, I smiled. When the harp started, I smiled more. What a cool little ditty. Something so *charming* and upbeat sounds so good at just the right time.
