This song was going to be an exploration. I wanted it to be slower than my usual fare, more pensive and meditative, in a way some dirge-like doom metal songs can be. But instead, I ended up subconsciously digging through bits and pieces of the melodies that swirl in my head most of the day and I didn’t stray far from my comfort zone.

The structure of the song was built around a recurring feeling I get in my life, from my compositional pursuits to my professional accomplishments, and even to some degree my close friendships. I suppose it’s due to the pursuit of right-brain activities, hobbies, and jobs. The somber “chorus” of sorts always finds its way into the song. Even during cathartic moments, its presence is there.

The struggle is real.

An excellent arrangement, capturing your emotions, progressing to a climax. All of us believe we are the only ones feeling this, when in truth everyone does. Thanks - Phil

Going to come back and leave a more detailed comment when time permits. For now, I'll just say that I love it.

For the first four minutes, I get a pretty hefty Estatic Fear vibe from the proceedings. From 4:00 to 6:00 there's a kind of halfway house, somewhere between the first part and what feels to me more like 'classic' herrsolera territory from 6:00 onwards. Structurally it's a little like latter-day Anathema - starting with a fairly quiet, subdued idea, then building and building to a crescendo - although you have more musical ideas in the pot than they typically do.

I like it. For me, the description of your intent is pretty close to what I hear. At eight minutes long it's a sizeable chunk of music, and the first half is firmly anchored in that quiet, introspective quality; since the music that follows is a development rather than a revolution, that sense of quiet thoughtfulness never truly departs, even as the arrangement grows in intensity.

The melody is really rather nice too.

It's interesting that I'm struggling to find things to say. Ordinarily I'm filled with energy after listening to your music, my mind awhirl with ideas, plans for projects, all that. This track takes me to a quiet place of contemplation where there isn't much to say - a place of resting, observing, simply experiencing. That's pretty much the reason I used to listen almost exclusively to bands who made records like this track - it was the most direct route I could find to that quiet place where the noise in my head abates and I can rest and simply admire the beauty of what's going by. I don't really know why I stopped - I guess maybe because the demands on my time and energy are so much greater now, so I tend to listen more to energising, uplifting music to keep me going throughout the day. Better that than amphetamines, I guess.

^I think the last paragraph of eido's sorta sums up how I feel too. Far in contemplation without much to say - until that last couple of minutes. How you get that guitar sounding so good?! smiley

Excellent composition! I love the contemplative feel throughout. I think we can all relate to the power and desire to focus on creation versus the drudgery of the day-to-day. Again, great job!

Love this all the way through. Kind of a gentle doom metal. It could be a theme song for a dark superhero movie.
