In Lhasa, Tibet, the city is jammed with tourists -not westerners though -Tibetan pilgrims who have walked many miles, sometimes hundreds or a thousand miles to be in what is for them the holiest place in the world.

There is an area called the Barkhor, which is a kind of square with some of the holiest temples of all. The pilgrims walk around and around this square, doing holy lap after holy lap of the temple circuit muttering chants to themselves.

One of the most bizarre experiences I've had was when I couldn't sleep my first night there (I had a bad altitude) and ventured out before dawn for a walk and stumbled upon this scene:

Thousands of Tibetan pilgrims stumble around and around the Barkhor muttering and chanting in an otherwise silent city. Cold morning mist and smoke from large bundles of incense fills the air. The occasional bell rings and echoes across the cobblestones. The stench of burning yak butter fills the air. It's like we've woken up 1500 years ago.

Always wanted to visit Lhasa.
Love your description of the experience you had.
Those are the kind that stay with you always.
The tune is great. I get a sense of plodding around in the cold, wet morning air and murmuring chants. Could have gone on longer for a good meditation.

Wow.
You've actually been to the holy city of Lhasa!
You've seen the monks of the 'Esoteric' school of Buddhism cast and weave their spells!

Thanks, elder, for the nice comment - and I think you're right, it probably should have been a bit longer. I sometimes try to crowd all the parts into one space instead of letting each take its turn. Tashi Delek.

Thank you, art. Yes, I have seen the monks of the 'esoteric' school, playing pool!

And thank you Longshot! Very kind. I've actually remixed this slightly, taking the sample of the monks and the water and birds down a bit, and out in places, and it does sound better, but I'm not sure if I should delete this version and re-upload for something that sounds only very slightly better, or just leave this...Anyway, thanks.

Great tune and an unexpected city on the schedule. The history of Tibeth in the last 50 years is the history of an incredible crime with massmurder and humilation of a hole population comitted by China. The rythme you gave to it is hypnotic like DGO wrote. Very impressive production here.

I like it... I don't think the monks should be quieter... if anything, a bit louder. Nah, I like it as it is.

They are sailing on a boat and he is doing sailing chores as they are sailing accross the water and you can see the men on deck doing chores and there is water and it is splashing against trhe boat.

It's sort of changed now. They are not sailing nopw. I don't know aht they are doing. I suppose they got onto the shore
