I've never been a big fan of Bruce Hornsby. His piano trilling just kinda bored me. So when I found Garageband's pop piano licks I didn't think much of them, until I added some decent pop percussion and laid in a bass track made of mangled loops even Chris Squire might be proud of. (Ok, I'm just on acid now. smiley ) The song is short, so still falls in my Song Doodle category. One day maybe I'll do a full song. Ha!

"SD" stands for "Song Doodle."

This is great, you wouldnt know it was all loops, this could be performed live with a piano duet.

Nice homage. smiley
Sorry I didn't rate performance and production. It's because I didn't know how to rate it, not because I didn't like it.

really really great.. on other tracks ive heard with electric drums ive said it doesnt work well and they should do some sort of collab with other drummers, but with this, i dont know why, but it works really well.. and i really like how uve done simple ostinatos on the piano over the main idea, makes it obvious uve used loops, but it doesnt matter, vecause its stil great!

Thank you all for the comments!

I had to look up the word "ostinato" -- thanks for the term. Yes, that's exactly right: I wanted to pick a couple of loops that would tie the piano work together and then feed the variant loops over it so it all made a kind of coherent whole. One reason this piece is as short as it is is because I didn't want it to sound TOO repetitive -- just enough to make it work. smiley

Thanks for the comment on the drums. Bass and drums I like to pick loops and cut them with fills and sometimes I edit with mouse (hopefully a keyboard soon smiley ) to fit -- adding in a cymbal hit or a bass drum thump here or there. (The last cymbal in this song doodle was just one mouse edit to add a finish...)

I'm thinking about revisiting this some day, splitting it in half and making a middle piece -- this song would make the beginning and ending thirds. Don't hold me to it, though. smiley As usual anyone is free to extend this themselves if they want -- I'm happy to provide my original GB files, too.

RickB1 Artist I like this! Piano is warm, the piece is energetic and uplifting, and the loops are pieced together to create a vivid "musical snapshot". I agree with wrao...as I continue to learn and experiment in GB, I've found the key can really be found in postproduction when you tweak the sounds and make them your own. I love this application, and you did a nice job with your tribute!

I have always loved the loops you've included here, and I'm pleasantly surprised at how your layering of them makes them sound fresh.

Very nice arrangement. I used these loop on my comp Angel Face and now I some how think they can't be used any other way. It's good to hear what others have done with the same loops. That's the great thing about loops, if done well, and this is, you can get several great comps using the same loops.

This is funny! 2 Years ago, I did a song for my wife titled Mary's Song and then built a semi-classical piece around it titled Una Canzone Per Maria Bella, with a bunch of movements to tell a certain story.

It's interesting to see how different people can see the loop structure a certain way and tell a story that while very similar, is so different.

Nice job!

First of all, thank you for the comments you left for me! I really appreciate it when someone takes the time. You can probably guess that I really like the piano loops used here, since I have used them myself. You did an excellent job of layering the pianos, and this could really be performed as a piano duet. Great *SD* smiley

Very very inspiring piece of music here. Found it after just reading your comment on my song - that you left there last year.

A real emotional 'arc' on this piece, despite it's doodlehood. I'll be listening to a lot more of your stuff. I can hear a nice ostinato melody in there as well... smiley

Very Nice. I get a kick out of the title cuz hornsby was the first person that came to mind when I was adding the piano to Are you with me, and I got a lot of comments along the same lines. Great job man. It is one of the downfalls of apple loops though, I don't really like the idea that there are probabbly 1000 songs on iComp that have that piano riff somewhere in them. Yet another reason for me to practice my own piano playing. That piano riff is so catchy and works with so much though, why deny its power smiley Thanks for the comment. CHeers
