The fifth track of Ramayana.

The real life events that triggered the completion of this track are in the lyrics section

The track is inspired by the Indian epic Ramayana. Dasaratha, a legendary Hindu king, has lost the will to live after being forced to exile his most beloved son, Rama. As the king lies beside one of his wives, blinded by his own grief (and understanding that his own violation of dharma has brought the end upon him), Lord Yama, death personified, quietly enters the room and slips his silver noose around Dasaratha's soul, drawing it carefully out and bearing the ghostly homunculus away to whatever awaits us all, out there, beyond.

For those interested, I used a couple of midi tabla loops and two sitar "chord" loops. The rest is drum programming and midi keyboard playing.

I am glad it sounds happy. I hope it is for all of us. Better to go out smiling, eh? I don't know how to get my head around the mortality thing. The sooner I do, the better the final act will be I assume. I don't share the pearly gate idea either, so it seems a little harder to stay upbeat about 'game over'. Tunes like this in memoriam of times like that, sure help though.... my parents told me they want to have the bee gees playing 'staying alive' at their funeral.

Yes, I kept trying to go dark, but there is something in me that refuses, despite how logically I understand just how dark the thought of death ought to make me feel... so the track turned out wistful, and for now that will have to be enough.

In the wind we are music
A whispered mortal coil
When the breeze softens
We fall to the soil.

That just came to me, while listening.

Whilst I regret the circumstances by which this came to be posted, I am delighted to hear it. I've been considering delving into Eastern religion, as I too find little resolution in Christianity. Thanks for putting this out David, you are truly gifted.

I dunno... this is from a friend of mine (the singer for a seminal texas punk band called 'the big boys')who recently died about another friend of ours (who played leather face in tobe hoopers remake of his classic texas chainsaw massacre) who died the year before... weeeee ooooooo.......... but a great thought

"We turn into glitter, we turn into dust, we turn into butterflies andfloat away with the wind. And in turning back for one last glimpse, we see the smiley faces of our friends glowing in the sun. They wave goodbye like pals at the leaving train. Through this love, we know ourjourneys will be magic and endless. It's not so bad in the clouds."- Randy J. Turner, written for Robbie Jacks 2001.

Very peaceful and uplifting. Sorry for your circumstances sometimes you just do things you have to do without knowing why. This is very well put together and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Thanks for sharing.

the christian life as intended is seldom taught; rarer still is the desire to live it without amendments and modifications..... this life is the knotting of our shoelaces before we open the door and make our way onward - a preparation only - beautiful sounds make me look forward happily as it should be - thank you for that.

Dave, I love the meditative element found in much of your music and the stories that illustrate what you are putting across for us. I'm sorry to hear about the troubles your family are going through. This song is just perfect. I thank you for sharing your life and art with us here.

You've a good story here. The music fits the construction ..

Please accept my commiserations on your grief. It sounds to me as if you are dealing with it well. Old people can be so troublesome ..

Very powerful song -- really enjoyed it and thanks for sharing such intimate thoughts and feelings in the description -- the emotion comes through in the tune, which is the highest compliment I could give to any song. I share my condolences with the fellow listeners -- hang in there.

David, first and foremost, my prayers are with you and your family. I pray that He would grant you the peace that passes understanding and assurance in your heart that no words can convey. Secondly, I want you to know that the gift of music that's in you is but a touch of devine manifestation and a form of His healing.
Peace,
Pete

Thank you all for your wishes, thoughts and prayers. I'm glad to say that my father-in-law, while hospitalized still, is stable and undergoing extensive tests to figure out what can be done to keep him that way.

I'm a bit late to offer my condolences (although I most certainly do offer them) on the circumstances that generated the completion of this piece, but I can say in all honesty that the results are once again worthy of the honest emotional impetus that gave birth to this lovely work.
