This hymn was my dad's favorite. He was the pastor of a pentecostal church, and as a child I would accompany him as he played his Gibson and sang (my mom was typically on piano). After hearing David Fahnestock's vocal work here on iComp, I realized that I wanted to do a version of this song in rememberance of the pleasant memories I have from my childhood (those from my adolescence are not as sweet). While David and I may have different reasons for doing this collaboration, I am very happy with the final product. I hope a few others will enjoy it as well, for whatever reason is pertinent to their own experiences (even if you're just a big Van Morrison fan... remember his version?) and worldview.

Instrumentation/programming: Bowles
Vocals: Fahnestock

Whoa. "Faddah forgive me" for saying this, but it reminds me of the outro song to a Monty Python film. There's a touch of surrealism in the arrangement. Almost like "We'll Meet Again" at the end of "Dr. Strangelove" when all the bombs are exploding! That's exactly the vibe I get.Superbly arranged and performed, regardless of my twisted intake.

Babs, the surrealism is also inherent in my performing this song in the first place, but I love apparent paradoxes, heh.

Davids,
I too was raised in a pentecostal church. Although I am reminded of the simplicity and innocence of my younger years while hearing songs like this one, it's hard to focus on the true meaning of these songs, instead our minds are pulled in hundreds of different directions and end up thinking about anything but, "..a closer walk with thee" But that's OK, it's all about what makes us who we are today, and what prepares us for tomorrow.

Anyway, I digress. Great collaboration. David B., I'm amazed at your ablility to ornament and embellish. David F. great job on the vocals.
Peace,
Pete

Well, yeehaw, my lordy, at first I thought I'd not be able to make it all the way ... just because of my own associations with such a christian number ... and yet as I listened because I know of Mr. Bowles' creative genius, I found myself relaxing into the wonderful arrangement and voice.

Nice job -- for memories.
