From Pulp, a collection of tracks inspired by popular fiction of the early twentieth century. Solomon Kane, created by Robert E. Howard (more famous for his Conan and Kull stories), is a16th-century Puritan who somberly wanders the world seeking to vanquish evil wherever it raises its head, especially in Europe and Africa. Unlike Conan and Kull, both amoral, relatively apathetic men who care little for the troubles of others, Kane dedicates himself tirelessly, sometimes years at a time, to fighting various causes, always with the goal of ridding the world of dark forces. Though his Puritan background has conditioned him to think of himself as a Christian and to view the world through that analytical lens, his actions and motives are often more reflective of pagan prehistory, and on several occasions Kane (with ostensible reluctance) makes use of non-Christian magical tools (more on that below).

This dark, gloomy figure dresses in typical Puritan fashion, entirely in black, with a slouch hat that casts ambivalent shadows over his pallid mien and cold eyes. To do battle with darkness, he goes about well armed with a rapier, a dagger and a couple of flintlock pistols. In the story "Hills of the Dead" his friend N'Longa, an African shaman, gives him a voudoun staff as a protection against evil, and the two men employ it to destroy legions of undead that are preying on villages near the ruins of an ancient city. In later stories Howard reveals that this "voodoo" stave is none other than the mythical Staff of Solomon, a talisman older than the earth and mind-bogglingly powerful.

Such a delightful tune. Love the ins and outs that the trail of this tune takes me along. The slight step up of intensity about half way through is well balanced with the overall ease of the piece. Wonderful flow. Nice ending.

I should add that "some loops" means two koto loops I changed notes on, and two percussion loops (cymbals mainly). The rest is me playing and programming.

I highly recommend these stories, btw:

This one is kind of a slow burn. Very enjoyable momentum, textures, and the subtle melodies are great. The background info is always appreciated. Thanks, David smiley

Film/TV score material and very good. It does fit the setting you spoke of. It also fits some of teh scenes from Mel Gibson's Apocalypse as well as other lush jungle or mideast settings. Nice.
