Magnus' free flowing guitar track, Sunset Sketch, has been transformed into an unnerving scene I experienced some years ago in India.

One evening, just after sunset, Marilou and I were riding in a jeep being driven by our guide back to our little villa-hut on the edge of the jungle in the Blue Mountains of southern India. As we rounded a bend on the dirt track, there was a small herd of wild elephants fully across the road with the bull leading the pack consisting of about 6 adults and 4 youths. Our driver stopped. The headlights of the jeep were reflecting in their small eyes just 30 feet in front of us. It was a moment of tense anticipation, not knowing how the bull would take our sudden presence. They have been known to trample folks and could easily turn over our jeep.

The driver sat still. We sat very still, with our hearts pounding, hoping the elephants would continue on their way. They all stopped, too. With half of the group already on the other side of the road, the second half stood back from the road and turned their backs to it, as if to say, "You people come on through and be gone with you." Our driver eased the jeep forward and we held our breath as we drove within feet of the very large animals, between the two parts of the divided family group.

When we got to the other side of the elephants, we stopped and looked back to see the second half cross the road and join up with their waiting relatives. They all then disappeared into the jungle next to the road. We could then relax.

The whole affair that evening didn't take more than a few minutes and it remains etched in my mind as one of the most dangerous, breathtaking, and satisfying events in my life.

Perhaps this concoction relates some of that experience.

Becwil, you've taken Homies tune into a whole different arena. Filled with staggered layers, the tune is all at once paranoid and beautiful. So, in that respect, I see very much how the music relays the experience you had. As I've said before, I think this is your strong suite, the ability to convey emotional landscapes with music.

And Homie... this tune wouldn't exist without your sublime endeavors.

Wonderful work.

Right, et, "Homie... this tune wouldn't exist without your sublime endeavors". Thanks so much, Maggie, for playing your 4-string guitar like the crazy Scotsman that you are! You are one gifted artist.

I'm wearing my Scottish t-shirt in your honor today. smiley Really, I am.

An incredible piece, very challenging, impressionistic, and compelling. I am always at awe in your ability, Rebecca, to make music that so perfectly emblemizes emotions, moments, ideas... I hearby dub you "The Semiotic Siren."

It's so cool to hear Maggie and Becca working together... hope there will be more.

And, WOW, to all of the comments! I'm amazed that this piece has been received so well. Thank you to all.

At times, I thought this was a sunk ship. Indian style music, especially the rhythm track, is something I've never really done before. I've still a lot to learn there.

et, you spoke (on Babylon) of folks lately going out of their comfort zones...well, it must be contagious and being passed around upon log-in.

I like a lot this "rearrangement", if I didn't listened to Homebrand original version, I'd thought the guitar to be a sitar, so I'm very impressed of how you managed that celtic sound into an Asian "mood": this is real "fusion music"!!

I didn't start getting a grip on this melody until midstream. It's very challenging. Second listen, I catch more of the downbeats and structure. The only practice I've had for something like this is the odd Eastern modes that Jimmy Page would play in sometimes.

Whoa, that was such a nice piece! Feeling the fun cruising along, then all of a sudden a rush in adrenaline, an increase in volume... and the elephants thunder in front of you. Then peace resumes... and reflection on such a wonderful event, skirting the potential danger. I really liked this one. Good job to both of you guys.

So cinematic. I get India, I get the beauty and the fear of the elephants. You state a narrative right off. Strangely, this reminds me of the drama of Astor Piazzola's Neuvo Tango. Gripping.

The song's picture, is it from your home video? It looks like a nightshot effect. That music with the nightshots, slow motion, comments from the car, a speaker; "The driver sat still. We sat very still, with our hearts pounding, hoping the elephants would continue on their way..."

That movie I would love to see. A poetic road movie from the heart of India!

Hi Becwil,

I talked to you a couple of months ago when I spotted that you had used an image of a bridge in one of you photographs. You sent me some nice comments so thanks for them.

This piece is very spooky and the feel of India/ the East is so strong. It also sheds light on the meaning of Pachyderm. I am pretty sure that Joni Mitchell uses it in one of her songs (Hissing of Summer Lawns album or round about that time). I never bothered to look it up in the dictionary then but I have now.

I loved the elephant story - amazing and terrifying at the same time. But it did make me wonder what you do for a living because I don't think I have ever come across anyone who seems to travel so much and so widely?

Best wishes,

Howard

Interesting story. The fact that you mentioned it only lasted for a few minutes yet has effected you ever since. reminds me of the Law of relativety. That the further I get out into space, time slows down. I see parallels between these to idiums.

George Michael with depth. what a concept. Or Cream

Actually there is a very nice Indian motif and production.

A little longer please. And the ending needs to be worked on Please. It just drops off. Just trying to help. Please smile.
