John and I are very happy to welcome two very talented artists from across the pond on this Fractal Garden track. Laura and I have collab'ed on a couple of other tunes, and it was always a wish of mine to have her lend her voice to one of our songs. And, our resident drummer-extraordinaire, James, contributed some of the finest rock drumming I've heard in quite some time.

I feel ridiculously lucky to have found such a wealth of talent here on iComp. It was an honor being able to collab with three such gifted musicians. Hope you like this one. Thanks for listening! Jay

Vocals/lyrics: Laura

Wow awesome track once again guys! Really enjoyed this one.

But I thought the vocals were off at parts. And I also thought the vocals could've had a bit more reverb, but that's just me, cause I like reverb on vocals (probably because a lot of the style of music I like to listen to has a lot of reverb and echo on the vocals and I've just adapted that) smiley.

But I still love the track all the way guys!
Jake

(Edited because as I listened through it a couple more times I changed my mind about the whole "being out of time part" smiley )

Powerful tune, the second half of the song really flys, the ending is sublime. Great performances all round, that new ESP is a real rock machine, there's a great mix of accoustic and electric guitars.
There certainly aren't any timeing issues at all, though there is a chorus effect on the vocal which is what I think Jacob has picked up on. (I know Jay doesn't like to touch vocals etc once he receives them, so I know he will have been reticent to add more reverb or delay to the vocal) as it is , I think it's a great track.

You're definitely developing quite a trademark sound here fellas. I can't believe this one went by and I didn't notice it.

Shame on me! A very good track indeed. I can't believe that this was not a more popular song. Where did all the listeners go?

As with all your tunes, I listen to them at least 3x in row and gather my thoughts as I go along. Remember, I do hold you guys to a much higher standard!

Here are some of my thoughts (please feel free to absolutely ignore them. As you know so well- I am not a real musician):

1. Panda's performance seems to be a bit too subdued for the the kind of energy you're delivering with the guitars. Maybe it was intended, but I feel that this is the kind of tune that deserves some of the great Stevie Nicks-type of emotive singing that I know Laura can do and does with amazing power.

One of the things I've noticed with James' drums is that they can sound a bit flat to me. I know they aren't the tradition kits but I kinda wish the cymbals popped more and that overall there was fatter bottom end to the track.

You know I'm always raving about the bass and the bottom end or the lack thereof in songs-- but I really do think a song like this with the dramatic keys and the art/prog-rock feel does deserve to have an almost 3-D feel to it. It's close, but I am thinking it should have a feel like Rush's latest "Snakes and Arrows" which is just a killer sounding recording. The fullness of Geddy's bass and Neil Peart's drums in this one is simply breathtaking. Of course guitar mavens will go nuts over how Alex Lifeson's guitars sound here too. Very crisp and full sounding. He must have multi-tracked the hell out all the tracks.

I am not the biggest Rush fan either- but I certainly do appreciate a lot of what they've done-- especially recently as they've really changed their sound since the 80s and 90s.

Which brings me around to the guitarist extraordinaire that is on this particular recording. Jay, you know I love this stuff and could eat it up almost all day long, but on this particular track I think it would have been cool if you had experimented with some different sounds from your arsenal- just to give it a different sound. Much like the awesome departure you guys took in "Outta My Way". This is not to say that I have any issues with what you laid down. I quite love it. But it is the trademark FG sound now and I think with this particular vocalist and arrangement there could have been some different textures in here. For instance, I can't help but wonder if there was an acoustic rhythm guitar that was in the mix during the solo that blended with the coda if that couldn't have been more effective use of a full sound? Or maybe if John used a piano to flesh out the sound over some of the pads?

Now all of this gibberish means absolutely nothing as usual. I still love the tune (5x as of this writing)and as usual will always have a FG playlist in my iTunes and my iPod. And this one will be in it too, because in spite of what I've just commented on, it's still a kick-*** song!

Good job!
