The Rolling Stones meet Bo Diddley on a hayride. Drunk. That's how I'd describe this cover. This is from maybe the first Farmageddon gig outside an open mic, and it's the first time our little basement/porch band ever played with a drummer. Setting: New Year's Eve 2002-'03 opening set for a local band, the Outlaw Family Band, whose drummer volunteered to sit in.

I'm on Telecaster; iC's FarmerMark is on bass. Bruce Bowers is on acoustic Taylor 6-string and vox. Plus Michael "X" scrubbin' it down on "cymbal-enhanced" washboard. My favorite riff is a Little Feat ripoff at 2:40 from Fatman in the Bathtub. (Not that you'll recognize it).

I disabled ratings so you can enjoy and comment any way you choose. I like some of this a lot but it's a litle loose to ask you to rate. Lo-Fi audio is via iC FarmerMark's camcorder mic! (Minimal EQ-ing done in QuickTime Pro.)

cStu, thanks for the prompt; according to this Wikipedia link, "It's All Over Now is a song by Bobby Womack and Shirley Womack. It was first a hit for The Valentinos featuring Sam Cooke and then for The Rolling Stones..."

Sorry Bob - I should check my sources. Sam's brother LC was in another group that Sam was working with at the time, and The Valentino's were indeed the Womack brothers. My apologies.

This is a kickin version though by any standards smiley

Thanks, dirge! cStu, don't apologize, you turned me onto finding the real author of this tune. I actually searchd lyrics sites before uploading (and to get the lyrics!). From now on I'm going to "Wiki" any covers I do. I feel like the kid who thinks the Beatles wrote "Roll Over Beethoven!"

My first band, my first gig, and the first song I ever played onstage in 1966 was this song. I always love doing this song because it had such a great groove. You could get into the funk of this one and just wail.
Brings back a lot of memories for me, and I'll bet there are a lot of other old timers like me that feel the same way.
And then there Bob and the boys, with there original take on this song, beatin' the begeezes out of it to Bo Diddley's Chicago style blues rift.

Man you guys had to be having some kinda fun on this one. And it shows. Love the whole effect of this track. Sounds like it was recorded on one of thoses little portable cassette recorders we used to use to try to get some kinda recording of what the band was doing. It always sounded like sh*t, but it sounded good to us because it was us playing.

Another milestone in the career of Bob6Stringer

Way to go Bob

To me it's the sound of a certain band of musically inclined gentlemen successfully entertaining a hot crowd. smiley You band, in think, had an excellent vocalist, well supported (and I mean that as high praise).

Great energy here. I love the way the vocalist sort of "shuts off" the ends of the notes. It reminds me of Roy Orbison and/or David Byrne (sp?) from the Talking Heads. It gives the vocal a kind of nervous edge that I like. Bob - if life is good to me, I'll get the privilege of jamming with you some day in person.

I know EXACTLY what you mean, Ed, I just never cold get a handle on Bruce's vocals. Well said! And I'm having visions of a marathon 10-hour jam, recorded, fueling several collborative uploads. And if you find yourself traveling.... c'mon down!

I just opened a can of beer and started this song. I really like the ambiance. I rarely hear a live setting here on Icomp. And I must say it's a great cover of this famous song. The guitar is excellent and so is the rest of the band. Nice one!
