The tenth track in my Ramayana project, a musical representation of the ancient Indian epic.

After witnessing the slaughter of Khara's army at the hands of Prince Rama, Surpanakha flees to Lanka, where she tells her brother Ravana what has transpired. What most interested the demon king, however, was his sister's description of Sita. Surpanakha, knowing Ravana's insatiable appetite for female beauty, encouraged this interest, and the king determined to have her for his own.

Ravana attempted to enlist the help of his uncle, Maricha, but that demon had encountered Rama before and wanted nothing to do with it. When Ravana mentioned Sita, Maricha asked, "What enemy in disguise mentioned that woman's name to you? The moment you decided you wanted her was the moment you died. You are a walking dead man, and you don't even know it."

However, Ravana's threats finally compelled Maricha, who assumed the form of a golden deer near the ashram where Rama, Lakshmana and Sita were living out the final months of their exile. Sita urged Rama to pursue the deer, though the prince suspected a trap and ordered Lakshmana to guard Sita well. When Rama finally shot the deer, Maricha was able to get out a final cry for help in Rama's voice, and a desperate Sita begged Lakshmana to go aid him, even accusing Lakshmana of wanting to defile her when he initially refused to fall into the obvious trap.

When Lakshmana finally went to investigate, a wizened old monk approached Sita, luring her from the protective circle her brother-in-law had sketched for her. The monk immediately transformed back into the hellish form of Ravana, who attempted to seduce Sita. When she bravely laughed in his faces, the demon king seized her and began to fly away toward Lanka. The king of the eagles, Jatayu, tried to stop the abduction, but Ravana ripped off his wings.

Sita, seeing two monkeys on a hill below her, dropped her jewelry and scarves toward them, hoping that her husband could make sense of the trail...

The epic of Ramayana is an ancient story, and yet this contemporary-flavored work seems an apt musical description for the tale you've described. A truly enjoyable listen -- thanks again for sharing!

If this is not catchy metal, I don't know what is. Great percussion - consistent and varied at the same time, if that's possible. Fantastic use of muted guitars that never overpower the mix. (Applause)
