The second of two country songs I wrote while in Pennsylvania this past August.

Thanks to UncletupeloFan, this song now has the rich personality it needed by way of his providing a world weary disillusioned drawl.

...and I had a blast playing the Big Muff slide guitar on this!

The only loops are the drums as usual.

I salute your Americana "phase." I love the song and your guitar parts. The slide part and fretted chords are perfect together as are the bkg vocals, which ar mixed so very, very well to compliment the lead vocal.

I really dig this Matt! This is certainly not pop-country and has a great forward thinking, not-off-the-shelf vibe. The slide stuff is killer too. Neat!

Thanks! Y'know... though I don't do it much, I owe all of my country music writing credit to my old friend Mike Coykendall of the Old Joe Clarks for showing me the ropes of writing cool folk style by way of well executed examples (one right after another).

I thought you were some sort of post punk power pop sort of bloke. Fine job in this genre. Uncle rocks it good. David Gilmore would dig the slide work I'm sure.

first listen thru...slide sounds good, vocals are good (not sure about the mix and effects for the vox...little muddy under that great slide work) I'm going to say great song, sizzling guitar, I like the hook and writing...mix needs a revision, methinks to hear the vox better

Yep the mix sucks... I freely admit that. The story is long, but what happened is that I lost the original GarageBand file in a file transfer from one drive to another.

I had a locked bedtrack to work with and did the best that I could.

I think it's okay for me to return to lo-fi for one song however.

Ok Matt, here's the verdict. The song is killer, as long as you can read along with the lyrics. Especially if your a deaf old coot like me. Love the lyrics, and the slide guitar. The rest is well done too. Only thing, like you said, "the mix sucks". But that's fixable and I know you know how to do that.

No question Matt, fix the mix and you've got a hit on your hands. Especially in Cleveland, or maybe Wheeling. Now go for it.

I told you and I told you to turn up the vox. But did you listen?

NO!

But, I still love it because Matt is one of the lucky few that can sound like a whole band jamming live (how do you do that btw?) and Paul's vocals get better with every song.

Well done, guys,
Ed

I'm wet. I don't know about the mix. It might be a plus as it is. I can feel the frustration of the charactere due to the mix. If it was too clear there would be more "sun" or "light" and it's a dark song. Excellent song anyway. THX for sharing.

Great song, Matt. I totally agree with Sloparts, so I won't repeat what's already said.
Btw, I've been through the "Gosh-I-lost-the-song-file" nightmare already, and in that dreadful occasion I discovered that there's no turning back from emptying the trashcan, on a mac.
Back in the day I had a very hard time tryin' to make the remaining pre-mixed stuff sound decent, and in the end it didn't work smiley You've got all my solidarity.
I loved the lyrics and the muff-ed slide. I really dig your country side.

Matt and UncleTupelo, nice work - this reminds me of the Drive By Truckers. Honest tune with a haunting, driving rhythm - couldn't ask for more. And that Big Muff slide guitar sounds great!

PS: of course the mix sucks - if it didn't, it wouldn't have so much soul....

It may be country, but it's got an edge, and a sense of urgency that I find compelling, much the way Johnny Cash made you feel "You'd better Listen"...

Just making the rounds and thought I have a listen to this one again.

Pittsburgh huh? Life can be tough. ...Especially when you give specific instructions to your realtor. I swear t'Buddha! Sometimes you can't trust anybody. Y'know what I mean?

Again, really nice job guys. The vocals are excellent.
