This is the story of a girl named Gitchy Gander. Basically, Gitchy watches too much television. One night, she falls asleep in front of the TV. The violent scenes on the television influence Gitchy's dreams. She is frightenend. Gitchy wakes in a severe panic which ultimately leads her to astral project into outer-space. Where she sleeps in Heaven -- watching us on television screens in her dreams.

This song is a complete overhaul of an earlier upload called "The Story of Gitchy Gander." Over 2 1/2 minutes of the original piece has been edited out for this new mix -- the current revised track length is 6'36".

I've added/re-recorded new vocals, instruments, and placed some final touches into the mix now. I think I've kept the best from the original/improv track (which can be found here: THE STORY OF GITCHY GANDER).

It really grabbed me, and enjoyed it a lot. Nice to hear you're voice too! You should be doing more vox. It's a very nice concept and as always the production is outstanding. Finally the girl understands; Space is the place! smiley

I listened to the original first - it goes back to before my time here... then this... and I am very impressed! This, to me, (both versions) is musical storytelling at its best - perhaps "not for everybody", but still very accessible.
A lot of the impact of the piece seems to depend on the mix. The new version does indeed work better for me. I also prefer the sounds "per se". It probably does pay off not to work on a piece of music forever if one isn't quite happy with it, let it rest for a few months, and then return with a fresh approach.
Very well done, thanks a lot for sharing!

Mr_Red: Indeed, Gitchy went to the outer space employment agency and now happily works for Outerspaceways inc. Viva la Sun! My vocals are typically mediocre and heavily processed, but thanks for your support, my friend smiley

k6: yeah, the concept is a bit wiggy, huh? smiley Thanks for your words!

shadow: as long as you enjoy the ride, hey that's all I can ask for!! THANK YOU for all your kind words and support of my artwork. It means a lot to me. smiley

Barretok: Hey dude, you're right on the money with this one. It feels nice to be understood. Thanks so much!

feenixx: thank you for your careful listenings and comparisons. Usually, I just ditch a piece and move on to something new once it feels "finished," but Gitchy seems to have gotten her way with this one. I appreciate your comments, my friend.

Keith: smiley

DJ: A trip and a half, yeah!

dirigent: I'm always honored by your comments and support, my friend. Danke schön!

Great stuff Justin

Thanks for letting me know about this.

I am almost (but not quite) hearing a touch of Richard Ringerisms in here (and that is a VERY high complement).

You have produced a very original piece of musical painting here Justin.

Thanks everyone for your listens and words of encouragement! SO appreciated. And Bob, I've had quite a time with the vocals on this one. I have a new vocal pre-amp (had some gain problems) that I'm working with and I honestly need a good condenser microphone too (my shure SM58 is a great live microphone, but I need a better studio piece). Again, thanks!!

Definately INtense. this is "other" isnt it? With the abstract and dwaining activities produced here, it seems like an interpretation of precision. Totally a part of art and definately a discovery to share with everyone. "Mindless" and finding the absence to leave the bread crumbs for others to follow!~

I really like this I think we talked about trip hop, breakbeats & others B4 (cold medicine is in affect) I love the journey of this by the way...my only issue with it is the drums (might be a drummer thing) I think it would be cool to have them more on beat (mainly snare and bass) it sounds like there may be a few tempo changes but I just a few subtle changes imo would make all the difference.

Thank you for you feedback moses. This track comes from an improvised movement, but I can definitely see where your argument for standardizing the beat comes from. The music of the spheres (outer space) is often one that evokes aleatory and chaos for me. With the percussions here, I'm often stressing a certain texture/energy more than regular pulse/beat. I like staggering rhythms and off-kilter beats. I'd say listen for the phrases instead of the beat. When it comes to the eastern percussions, I often think horizontally, if that makes sense. western rhythms subdivide the beats; I'm often using additive and polyrhythms. Think of falling into a black hole and seeing the light taken apart pixel by pixel.

Some music stimulates the emotions; other music, the intellect. Your music does both, my friend. There are so many good ideas blended together here, but one has to really listen and pick them apart. I enjoy the challenge. Great concept, great story, great execution.

Sorry it took me so long to get to this buddy! I actually downloaded it several days ago and have been listening to it constantly.

Some very insightful comments have been made on this. As the above points out, yes your music does indeed stimulate the music AND intellect - this is what makes your songs so special. It sucks you in with its visceral intensity yet also allowing space to rationally reflect upon its nuances, unveiling a beautiful complexity.

Mind blowingly, scarily and tremendously good Justin!

OK, a very strange track! (But I mean that in a good way.)

The vocals are weird and disturbing. Suffering souls.

It's good that you allow some space between the vocal phrases, for the listener to digest it all.

Spooky and cool. ("Spool?" smiley

This is unlike anything I've heard before. The main piano (is that a piano?) underlying everything sounds like the same one used in "The Carnival Is Over" (Dead Can Dance). Then there's the voices ... it's like I stumbled upon an unholy congregation on a stone dias.

1/3 of the way the song changes a faster beat, but keeps the same mystic, disorienting quality. I can't put my finger on what feelings this is invoking. But I like it. Strangely enough, I really like how it spins in your head and confuses you at times. Really touching textures ... marvelous. Absolutely marvelous.

Music to be hypnotized to. I'd change the snare drum because it can be a little distracting at times, taking away from the shaman-esque magic of the voices. But that's it.
