Has the future arrived?
Are we there yet?

20XX: A New Year -- a modern ballet for piano, electronic tape, and seven dancers. I could see this being choreographed in the experimental dance style of Merce Cunningham.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008 iCompositions!
~Justin

Very powerful piece justin. It really takes you into a dimension only conceived by the best fantasy writers.

the percussion is so intense & and...well...percussive! (i can see the 7 dancers in my mind's eye moving to the sounds of the drums...)

i like the harmonic tension you created in the sustained chords throughout...(it really helps to create a captivating sonic tapestry behind the rhythms...)

this was a really nice way for me to say hello to 2008...thanx!

I like how this is in the holiday category smiley

Well Justin you have woven a scintillating masterpiece here! As missred says, this is very intense... with gushes and bursts of sounds bound in lethal directions. And just when you think the song is as splendidly fractured as it could get it halts only to unleash a bombardment of tribal toms and short circuiting synth. The ending is fantastic swapping between locked grooves and assymetric patterns. I think I feel where your coming from with the experimental dance concept.... believe it or not I had a boogie listening to this! Exemplary my friend!

I am still listening to this excellent sonic landscape. It's quite long, and in this case, that's a good thing.
I like the way you have structured it into little movements, shorter than usual in a Ballet suite. It creates a sort of Fireworks effect, very fitting for the new year celebrations... and the dynamic passage before he more subdued final part does indeed evoke fireworks.
Excellent piece, quite demanding in places, not always easy listening, but very enjoyable.

I totally see this choreographed ala Cunningham. You could easily go in a post modern dance/world tradition as well and I can't wait to see how you develop this. Definitely screams Merce though!!!! Your musical idea here for dance is exquisite.

I am touched and honored by your comments. Thanks everyone! You make this website a bastion of warmth for bizarre avant-garde art like mine and I appreciate that so much. There is certainly a sonic "blend" happening here with some purely improvised and unstructured bits being expanded by my less-than-conventional musical thinking. I'm not completely happy with this piece, but that's what happens when you take risks and see what happens. I am glad the threads of world music that I was hoping for came through for you in the second half (the celebration/percussion/climax section) letileti. It's always a treat when an artist's intention is realized in the listener's mind and they are thoughful enough to render that precious feedback. Cheers and Happy New Years! ~Justin

Justin, dear -- this is just superb. So interesting, and I love the way it just keeps pushing the listener forward unrelentlessly. I'm fascinated by the way you mix such a diverse array of sounds -- it's like a master chef blending ingredients without a recipe, and just knowing by experience and instinct what works and what doesn't. Yummy!

Justin I like all these cool sounds. An enhancement of what we call "praepariertes Klavier" (prepared piano ...?) in Germany. A most creative track - got hooked on it (had to listen twice at once). Full of witty ideas. E g in the choice of the percussion sounds LOL! Bravo!

I love how not afraid you are to break the mode. Well done and definitely should be made into an experimental dance.
