Well, it all started with the 'groove' and sort of got out of control. If I may say, I rather like this piece, its got a sense of itself without adhering to any one musical 'jazz school'.

Those in the know will notice that the first solo is Joe Zawinul's 'The Harvest' taken from his first solo album after Weather Report - 'Dialects'. I have always loved the lines in the tune but was never happy with the overall sound that Zawinul made - it was too rough. Whilst I would NEVER presume to better what he does, I always wanted to use the lines in a piece of music and here it just sort of slipped into place.
Everything was input through my M-Audio keyboard.
As always I am VERY keen on constructive feedback.

i'm not really that good at constructive feedback , but I will say that this is a crazy song...and I like it , apart from a few little riffends that seemed to bend out of tune (but they didn't bring the song down). overall , this is a very interesting piece - even if i don't know who Joe Zawinul is , and It is certainly unique , and strange. good good!

Many thanks for the feedback; I am real happy to be different - but without making an effort to be.
If you are in this section of the group then Joe Zawinul is a MUST listen as he was to a alarge extent VERY responsible for creating the modern electronic jazz of today - first whilst with Miles Davis in the *****es Brew period (together with Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea), then with his group Weather Report in the 70s and 80s, and he continues today (at 71 years of age) to do so with The Syndicate. I would HIGHLY recommend anyone interested in electronic music to listen to Joe.

Hey Ian, thanks for the feedback. In fact this track was 100% GB, although the backing rhythm track was made of four separate ethnic rhythm samples

Ah, you certainlly have found a niche, and I think you that are pulling it off very well. I'm not used to this type of music and it can sound a bit chaotic at times in my ears, inn particular when the guitar type sound comes in and is echoed by an organ sound. I soon got use to it, however, and must say that it is very professionally done.

I should explain my "3" grade. This is simply subjective, but this very fushion type music is not my style, I'm much more of a be-bop, hard-bop to late Coltrane type of jazz listener. Although, I do like Hancock's Headhunter and Thrust. This is one step further and perhaps a bit beyond me. Nonetheless, don't be deterred by that, because I have loads of friends that would love this and I can certainly hear that you have the talent. I'm not an Ozric Tentacles fan, but you should get in to them if you don't already know abot them.

Back to the tune: You have made a very coherent tune, which must be hard in this genre (what ever genre this would fit in?). I particularlly like the Hancock type synth sound, it is spacy, but still down to earth. It has that early, mid seventies keyboard sound to it and that goes very well with this song.

Nonetheless, I must say that I think the intro is the best part of the song. You build in everything very well on the drum, percussion and bass rhythms. That is how good song writing should be done, gently introducing one new element after the other. Wonderful!!!

Really cool lines and some nice development throughout the song The one thing that was missing for me was a more clearly defined chord structure underneath some of the lines. i think that may have anchored them a bit better all the while giving the listener a better grasp of what harmony is being implied by the lines. Some of the lines really stretched things ( as they should ) I just would have wanted a bit more definition either through the bass line or a additional chording in the more minimalist sections. Overall very enjoyable
