I lay my head down to sleep …

The 1st, in a series called Timelapse. An exploration of differing tempos within each song. Also this is another collection of “music to sleep to”, particularly on the long flights across the Pacific. The other series is Diffused Illumination.

Comment and critique welcomed.

Not sure why, but the major key surprised me. It's not like you haven't used it before. Nothing wrong with a 'happy' interlude. This would fit nicely as a segue spot in between two longer songs or an ending song in a collection.

@sammydix, thanks for the observations. You make me smile, in that, I didn't even consider the key over the idea of using all 7ths in the chords, etc. Playing on a sorta pun-ish thought of 7th heaven and sleep. smiley For me, this little ditty was inspired from the "going to sleep" process: Get sleepy, get into bed, think a bit of some stuff from the day or stuff coming in the next day, get more relaxed, thoughts start melting away, the conscious world recedes, and … sleep. And then there is the play with "sleep over"-ture. smiley

I'm mainly after another collection of "sleep" music for the next plane ride.

The blue wavy line in the song art is a screenshot of the tempo line from part of this tune.

It feels exactly as you described it. An interlude between being awake, then crossing over to sleep. I said an interlude between songs, but it works just as well for a "state of being." Funny how that comes across just from listening.

Ah, that's so cool all the thought going into it! Definitely captures the feeling and I'm impressed with the tempo line variation - it' s a good thing I have a big coffee here this morning as the outro may have taken me asleep smiley hehe

Hi Bec!

Even though I'm listening on my emergency cheapo earbuds the feeling everyone has already commented on comes through.

Tranquility reigns!

You're so talented!

Oddly enough I found this quite vertiginous. Devin Townsend has a variable-tempo track on one of his early solo albums, Infinity, which has a similar effect on me. I depend quite a lot on structure in life in general, so I think music like this gives me a sense of the ground shifting beneath me. (This isn't a bad thing, just an observation!)
