as an exercise in melody and variation within a longer, single movement.

The working title of this piece for weeks was “Gorecki,” after Henryk Gorecki, the Polish composer whose most famous work is his 3rd Symphony, known as the “Symphony of Sorrowful Songs.”

How can a piece called “Song of Forgotten Sorrow” also be untitled? For that matter, how can music without words be called a song?

I dunno.

Though I heard this song in its progression and then the final version some time before you posted it (finally ! smiley) it still is a wonder to hear how you make those software instruments 'sing' so beautifully.

I like the 'untitled title' you've given to it, for while there is a definite somber tone about this, it is not necessarily sorrowful.

In fact there is a purposefulness about its mood that brings to mind ideas such as: determined, undeterred, resolute.
Shafts of light amidst the darker tones, it is --if it is anything-- sorrow forgotten and hope forged anew.

Thank you for your music, Tom.

Ah Gorecki--the piece may inspired by him, but this is your sound. Very punchy opening, contrasted by more doleful music, that is well written(not often I say that here unfortunately!). People on this site tend to comment on sounds, and neglect the compositional skill. Which is in evidence here! Really pretty brass choral chord writing, complimented with the snare. I also liked the solo flute music--but it was the underlying sounds I found most pleasing there. I like how it all comes together. Fruitful and effective music here! Well done!
